I, as part of Team io, participated in the GovHack 2019 hackathon event. GovHack is the biggest hackathon in the southern hemisphere incorporating data from both the New Zealand and Australian governments, as well as data from other companies and organisations. We ended up winning, not only the Hawkes Bay regional event, but ended up going on to win first in two categories at the New Zealand national event.
Gov hack is the biggest open hackathon in the southern hemisphere and is based upon the idea of using data in new and creative ways. During the three-day event teams from Australia and New Zealand work to create their hacks and present them to judges in their local regions, the winning teams go to the nationals and some teams go to the international awards. The hacks are designed around challenges set by the sponsors and organisers, participants can create their hack to pursue these challenges, each challenge has one winner one runner up.
